What exactly does a conference interpreter do?
Conference interpreters render spoken language at conferences, congresses and high-level meetings — either simultaneously from a booth or consecutively with a note-taking technique. They prepare intensively for the topic, terminology and speakers to render content precisely, on-tone and culturally appropriately.
How many interpreters are needed per language combination?
For simultaneous interpreting the AIIC standard is at least two interpreters per language combination and booth — for particularly long or technically demanding assignments, three. They rotate every 20–30 minutes to guarantee consistent quality.
Which technology is required for conference interpreting?
On site: ISO 4043-compliant simultaneous booths, interpreter consoles, receivers and microphone systems. Online or hybrid: RSI platforms such as Zoom or Interprefy with professional audio setup. We advise on both team and technology.
How do conference interpreters prepare for an assignment?
Preparation covers subject matter, terminology and context: presentations, speaker scripts, glossaries, annual reports and reference materials are systematically processed. The better the briefing, the more precise the interpreting — confidentiality is a given.
What does a conference interpreter cost?
Conference interpreters are billed by day rate. Fees depend on language combination, subject, location and format (on site, online, hybrid). Travel, accommodation and technology are added where applicable. You receive a transparent, event-specific quote up front.
How early should I book a conference interpreter?
As early as possible — ideally 6 to 12 weeks before the event. For rare language combinations, highly specialised subjects or trade-fair weeks in Frankfurt an even longer lead time is recommended. We are of course happy to review short-notice requests.

What is the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpreting?
Simultaneous interpreting is delivered almost in real time from a booth — ideal for conferences and AGMs. Consecutive interpreting renders longer passages after the speaker using a specialised note-taking technique — ideal for speeches and negotiations.
